4 Ways To Do a First Look On Your Wedding Day

Wedding Planning Tips

Your relationship is unique, so why should your first look be any different? A first look is a special moment that you share with your fiance before the wedding day when you get to see each other before you take those first steps down the aisle. How do you envision your first look? Are you excited to show your dress off? Do you want to make your partner laugh or surprise them? Maybe you just really want to see your person before all of your guest arrive and all of the events are in full swing! Here are four ways you can customize your first look on your wedding day.

Traditional First Look

With the traditional first look, the groom turns around for the bride. Groom is set first facing away and the bride approaches and taps the groom on the shoulder, covers his eyes, grabs his butt or whatever else she wants to do! I have seen so many creative ways that photographers have captured this. Once the bride is ready, the groom will turn around and see his bride for the first time on their wedding day. There are a ton of cute poses for the traditional first look. Ask your photographer how they execute the first look!

Double Reveal First Look

With a double reveal, both partners are revealed at the same time. Don´t forget, it is your partner´s day too. They should be getting all dressed up just as you are getting all dressed up! In my opinion, the double reveal builds more excitement for both of you and captures genuine reactions from you both instead of just one surprise reaction.

Humorous First Look

To all of the Pam Beasleys and Jim Halperts out there, this is the first look for you! If you and your fiance are always joking with each other and humor is a big part of your relationship, then consider doing a prank first look! A prank first look is a great way to include your personalities and quirks on your wedding day. The one with the bride in the dinosaur costume is hilarious! Another surprised the groom by having his best man dress up in a wedding gown!!

Emotional First Look

If you really want a genuine reaction from your partner, then the emotional reading of a private letter is the way to go! This is one of my personal favorites that I always recommend. For this first look, you both write an intimate letter, that is to be ready silently during your first look. You have your backs facing each other, or you are holding hands with something in between you. Once you finish reading the letters, your turn around for the first look. Just make sure your makeup team does not leave before this one!

WEDDING PLANNING TIP: NEVER pressure your fiance for a reaction from your first look. I´ve seen so many stressed out grooms that are worried they won´t give the right reaction for their bride and therefore hate doing the first look. Your fiance should not be stressed to see you! Your fiance should be excited so don´t pressure them, just pick the right first look for you both.
